April First!

March 11, 2011 Leave a comment

Opening day is just around the corner! Less than a month to complete all those projects you had over the winter. If you read my last post, you know that I was going to be changing the clutch in my buggy. Well, that is the plan for tomorrow.

On a side note, the buggy builders show is coming up soon as well. I believe it is the 27th of March. Right now, I am probably not going to make the trip up to the show. However, if you’ve never been, I highly recommend taking a trip to Lansing. It is definitely worth it because there is a little bit of everything there. http://www.buggybuilders.com/

So, how many of you guys are going opening day/weekend or the buggy builders show? Leave a comment below!

Another Winter

November 27, 2010 Leave a comment

I haven’t really updated this blog for a while, so I figured I would do so now. Our last trip to Silver Lake was back in October. Because my brother’s banshee wasn’t running, we just had our truck and buggy out there. Well, my brother isn’t use to driving a stick, plus the hills were peaked like crazy. So, every time he reached the top of a hill, he would engage the clutch. After doing this all day, the clutch decided it had enough. Luckily I was watching them go up Test hill when this happened, so I was able to just shoot over to them and see what was going on. We ended up pulling the buggy out and loading it into the trailer. In the end, we had a good day of riding, it just ended on a bad note.

Anyways, we’ll be putting a clutch in the buggy at some point this winter and my brother is going to continue to see if he can fix whatever is wrong with his banshee. I believe these are our only two projects this winter. What are some of the projects you’ve got planned for this winter? Leave a comment with what you’ve got to do before April 1!!

August 14-15

August 17, 2010 1 comment

In my last post I said we were heading up August 13-17. Well, that didn’t happen. We only stayed Saturday and Sunday. It was a short but fun weekend. Except for the fact that we came home with a broken buggy. As I was going up Baldy, the throttle stuck and when that happend, a plug on one of the carbs blew of and now its pouring out gas. So, we are going to have to find someone to fix that because Appletree said they didn’t have anything to fix it. But the weather was great and we were able to ride around in our friends rzr’s so it was still a fun weekend.
Our friends Rzr’s going up Test in reverse

A Stuck Cheerokee

The Sand Spider Rail

So, whens everyone else heading up? Our next trip will probably be Apple Fest, unless I decide to drive up for the day sometime. Hopefully, when we go for Apple Fest we will stay for the hill climb as well since we’ve never been to it.

Next Trip

Its been a long time since I’ve posted on here. I’ve been working 10 hour days 6 days a week. But I finally got to make a trip to Silver last weekend. I posted some pics on silverlakeforum.

The reason I wanted to post this though was to see if anybody will be up August 14-17? That will be my next trip up. My last day for work is August 13, then the next week I have to go back to college, so this will probably my last trip for the year. Post a comment if you’ll be up there!!

Saturday April 3

April 6, 2010 1 comment

Well, we had quite the time trying to get to the dunes Friday. After 2 hours of driving our truck decided to start missing so we pulled into a parts store. We thought maybe a change of plugs and wires would do the trick. To make a long story short, it still wasn’t running right after the change. So, we decided to head back home and jump in my mountaineer and head back up. We finally got up to the comfort inn around 7 PM that night. Keep in mind we left the first time at 5 AM.

After all the trouble we had on Friday, Saturday morning turned out to be pretty good. However, it did decide to start raining around noon. Despite the weather there were a lot of people there. In fact the DNR had to turn a couple trailers away because the parking lot was full. Here are the pictures I took. Not too many cause of the rain.

What’s Your Ride?

I was just curious to see what everyone runs in the dunes. I spend most of my time in my buggy, however I occasionally jump in my mountaineer or my brothers banshee.

Opening Day

April first is just around the corner!!! There are only 10 more days at the time of posting till opening day! I’m getting really excited to get up to the dunes. My dad and I just got our buggy all rewired and it is now ready to tear up the dunes. We still want to adjust the suspension, but that probably won’t get done for a while. So, is everybody ready and are you going up opening week or weekend?

PS: The Lansing Buggy Builders show is this coming Sunday. Always lots of good deals there when you arrive early!

Glamis vs. Silver Lake

February 11, 2010 Leave a comment

Every duners dream is to visit the Imperial Sand Dunes in California. The Imperial Sand Dunes include Glamis and a few other riding areas. Since I’ve never been to Glamis, I’m going to compare Silver Lake and Glamis from what I’ve heard from a couple of forums and some friends who have been out there. There are many differences between the two locations, but the most obvious is the size. Glamis is massive compared to silver lake. Another thing I have heard is there are a lot more long travel sand rails in Glamis, whereas Silver Lake has mostly trucks and quads. The sand is also very different in both spots. Silver lake has a compact sand compared to Glamis’s loose sifting sand. The reason the sand is different is because silver lake’s sand is made up of completely different rock than Glamis. The one thing I like better than Glamis is that Silver Lake is right on Lake Michigan. This is good because you can head over to the beach to swim or watch other peoples rides if you or your family get tired of riding. Looking for all this info about Glamis made me really want to get out there. Is anybody looking to try a new riding area? Let me know in a comment!

Opening Weekend

There are less than 50 days remaining till Silver Lake opens the gates back up! I for one cannot wait for April to get here. The Silver lake forum will be holding their second annual get together opening weekend. If you join up on the site, you are more than welcome to come join in the festivities. I hopefully will be able to make it this year if the weather isn’t too bad. So, when is everyone planning on making their first trip this year? Let me know in a comment!
